Sustainability

At Royal, we view sustainability as a way of working, not just a statement. Audiovisual production involves equipment, materials, travel, and energy consumption during very concentrated periods of time, and that is where we have the real ability to make better decisions.

We don’t use labels we can’t live up to. What we’ve compiled on this page are the practices we follow on our film sets and in our day-to-day work, as well as the areas where we’re still working to improve.

Materials and Waste. We prioritize renting over purchasing sets, props, and costumes. When we build sets, we aim to ensure that the elements can be reused, donated, or recycled once the project is complete, rather than discarded.

Travel. When evaluating locations, we consider distance and accessibility, not just the on-screen result. We consolidate trips for equipment and materials whenever scheduling allows, and we prioritize carpooling.

Energy on set. We use energy-efficient LED lighting whenever the visual concept allows it, and we prioritize connecting to the power grid over using generators when the location permits.

Suppliers. We give preference to local suppliers, technical crews, and services in every location where we film, both to minimize our environmental impact and to contribute to the local professional community.

We sort and recycle waste at our offices, reduce paper use to the bare minimum, and use equipment and supplies that can be repaired or reused before being replaced.

The sustainability of a production company is also measured by how it treats the people who make each project possible.

• We comply with applicable labor regulations and work to ensure that shooting schedules are planned realistically.
• We are committed to diversity in the composition of our teams and in the stories we produce.

We are aware that there is still work to be done. Our current areas of focus are:

• Make progress in measuring the environmental impact of our production processes so that we can set goals based on data rather than intuition.
• Expand the environmental criteria used in supplier selection.
• Train our teams in sustainable production practices.
